You need to listen to Common's album Be. It's short, but slick and smooth, and a little slower than most rap nowadays. And you should listen to Game. He's the new rapper produced by Eminem and Dr. Dre. It's slick, and he'll probably become the new West Coast rap icon, replacing all of those forgotten people from the 90's (2pac, Snoop, Ice Cube, etc).
The New Pornographers: Twin Cinema was a solid album that was a little more off beat than usual.
And you forgot Mr. A's favorite musician, Sufjan Stevens: Illinois. That was a stellar album. Probably one of the more interesting of this year, and most certainly the most original.
